Pilot Chemical Company announced today the launch of CalCare™ 190C, a sustainable biosurfactant designed specifically for the personal care industry. The key attributes of CalCare™ 190C include a 98.6% Renewable Carbon Index, clear color, stable pH Range (3 to 11), and the ability to form high and stable foam.
CalCare™ 190C is a biosurfactant for shampoo and body wash formulations and is easily formulated with other surfactants. It offers excellent foam and lather; is mild on skin; has undetectable levels of 1,4-Dioxane*; and is sulfate-free.

CalCare™ 190C performs like a traditional surfactant but has the added environmental benefit of being a biobased surfactant. It is produced in the United States through a batch process providing ease of scalability
compared to fermentation. A reliable, domestic feedstock contributes to consistent quality, and Pilot Chemical’s production run rates can meet current and future demands for the biosurfactant. An abundance of the non-edible, biomass feedstock globally offers supply chain stability.
Last year Pilot introduced its first two biosurfactants, CalNext™ 126 and 196. These two biosurfactants were designed specifically for household, industrial and institutional (HI&I) applications. The rollout of CalCare™ 190C represents the next phase in Pilot Chemical’s vision to offer innovative and sustainable products to its customers. An additional release in Pilot Chemical’s biosurfactant line is planned in 2024.
