November is C. difficile Awareness Month

November 16, 2023

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)1, Clostridioides difficile, more commonly referred to as C. difficile or just C. diff, is a pathogen that causes colitis (an inflammation of the colon) as well as intestinal distress.  Other symptoms of infection can include fever, loss of appetite, nausea, and stomach pain. The CDC also reports that:

  • C. diff is estimated to cause almost half a million infections in the United States each year.
  • About 1 in 6 patients who get C. diff will get it again in the subsequent 2-8 weeks.
  • One in 11 people over age 65 diagnosed with a healthcare-associated diff infection die within one month.

This C. diff Awareness Month, we encourage you to visit the CDC’s C. diff website to learn more about what the CDC is doing to raise awareness.

Mason Chemical Company, a subsidiary of Pilot Chemical Company, offers Maguard® 5626, an EPA List K broad-spectrum disinfectant with efficacy against C. diff spores, for subregistration.  Please reach out to a member of our subregistration team for more information.
